We celebrated our 23rd anniversary from September 29th - October 5th at SERC. We arrived on a Thursday and by Friday night Tropical Storm Stan arrived. Have never experienced rain and wind like this before.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful - food and service great. Everyone was extremely friendly and genuinely happy to help you.

The beach is bad - I expected bad but not as bad as it was. Even before the Tropical Storm. There is tons of sea grass and though they try to remove it they really can't keep up with it. We walked (in the rain) on the beach to Puerto Morelas - long walk. We walked the other way past Paradius - the beach is like a dump past there. Garbage strewn all over the place. The beach is really the only reason we will not return.

It is hard to comment on much else about the resort as the weather was so bad - we didn't reallly experience the TRUE SERC. The entertainment staff really tried to keep people busy but when you are hoping for sun, swimming, tanning, touring, etc. a dance contest or bingo in the theater will not cut it. The main pool with the swim up bar had action a few days - even in the pelting rain there were a few guys who sat there all day and had fun. Most days they did not bother to open any of the outside bars as it was raining too hard and no one would venture out. They had to have large shades drawn in the open areas of the theater and pool tables otherwise it was flooding. Even the lobby bar would flood a bit by all the doors - they couldn't keep up with the rain.

We ordered room service a few times for snacks and it was good - the secret door is nice. The rooms were beautiful but very slippery when wet.

We ate at all the restaurants except for the Asian - they were all great and we had some really great servers along with the great food. Never had to wait more than 10 min or so. Drinks were pretty consistent - we would order an extra shot if it needed it without a problem. We consistently tipped and really felt everyone deserved it.

We requested a room in building 6 and were given that. It is nice and close to everything. We were not impressed with the massages at the Spa - really nothing like we can get at home.

All in all SERC is really nice - we stayed at Secrets Capri last year and really don't know which we prefer. Capri does have a nicer beach and is closer to Playa which are plusses for us.

Also we got pretty friendly with the entertainment staff (how could you not as we were all inside together) - anyway they do read these sites and get a kick out of some of the complaints - not sure if they forwarded this info to anyone in charge or not.

Photo link to our SERC photos if anyone is interested in viewing. Go to the 2005 Cancun section. Unfortunately we got a new camera and we were experimenting. Many of the same shots, and some pretty blurry ones.

Hi Kathy... just looked at your pictures from SERC. You got some really great pictures and it looks like you at least had a great time during your meals! Have you started planning your April trip? You deserve it! Lisa

Hey Lisa,

Thanks. Yes we are looking at dates and prices for April - so at least that is something to get excited about. Unfortunately we did have a great time eating and drinking - the extra pounds are proof.
